- At St Clements Church, Ipswich -

Over 250 works of paintings, prints, ceramics and sculptures on display celebrating 150 years of the Ipswich Art Society. Showing at St Clement's church Art Centre. On until Saturday 15th June. I felt privileged to have had a couple of my construct artworks accepted for this exhibition.
The way the show curation was cleverly laid out, in that my pieces were hung adjacent to each other (in the nave), hung upon the original hooks that the hymn boards would have been when operational. Which fitted with my theme of Church Reformation (not by man) but the elements.

Here was the exhibition and my pieces chosen for the show.

- New Year / New Studio - USB Studio Loft 2024
St thomas Church, Bramford Lane, Ipswich, Suffolk

A lesson for me in giving and receiving - I have been gifted the opportunity to have my new studio in the loft space of the St Thomas Church Tower - The perfect location to make and show my construct artworks. I have only recently acquired the space and look forward to producing my future works from here. In return I will give back with public displays of mindful art, (above in the studio space) and below in the church communal area.

- Sacred Geometry Star Light -

Sacred geometry is essentially the study of the spiritual meaning of various shapes. It can be applied to the forms, numbers and patterns seen throughout the natural world. Simply put, this is the principle that all of nature’s structures are governed by a set of geometric patterns and mathematical ratios. Found in anything from plants and trees to stars and the galaxy, the intrinsic order of the universe that unites all forms of life.

In geometry a tetrahedron (also know as a triangular pyramid) is a polyhedron composed of four equal triangular faces, six straight edges and four vortex corners, the tetrahedron is the simplest of all the ordinary convex polyhedra. The shape created here is the star tetrahedron or ‘Merkaba’
a powerful symbol in sacred geometry also know as the vehicle of light. This important symbol is constructed of two tetrahedrons, interconnected through their planes. Historically, it is understood to permeate all dimensions and multiverse.

Description for the show catalogue

Martin lives, works and (mainly) walks in Suffolk, but wherever his feet can take him, he enjoys nothing more than going off to explore the landscape, to see what his natural curiosity ‘for what is out there’ can unearth.

The works on display explore the mediums of photography, drawing and constructs (making things from ‘found objects’). A way for him to explore museum quality ideas from history’s art pioneers (that he loves); born from an appreciation and feeling for Impressionism, Minimalism and Abstract Expressionism authority figures (The Painters epoch). To evoke these same emotions from the everyday landscapes that surround us.

‘Because Art Is Always A Journey In The Making’

As a moto, this has various meanings for Martin as an artist, from the processes that he takes himself through to create his art with a human expression, for a human experience. To observe our everyday reality and to create a journey which forms a moment of clarity; as a response to ‘the experience’, which hits emotionally with the inside of us. Which can affect the soul by using everyday things that have a history to tell.

As an environmental artist, Martin chose over a decade ago to make walking the primary mode of transportation to produce his art, (before then travelling, flying to Europe and other continents). The art he makes, comes about organically in the order that it is made, usually in a series of works which explore a theme of unseen beauty, so that became the name of his art site and where the curious journey into Weather Impaction and Human Interaction are observed.

From the left side, the light of faith inside the church is seen through the candel lights reflection through the symbol o The Cross.

BACK SIDE ASPECT

From the back notice detail along the roof, noticing the building construction over periods of time, shown usning different windows.

RIGHT SIDE ASPECT

From the right side viewpoint, notice the bell in the far tower, the roof detail, another open door and rusty old drain from the roof structure.

This latest commission piece completed just before Christmas, more to come in 2023.

The base is separate from the church building (the detail) in the base represent flowers, mushrooms and tomb stones which often buff up against the foundation of the church.

- Mini Exhibition - 26th November - 17th December -

Since November 2021, I have found it very rewarding to volunteer for community activities at St. Thomas’s church; shown here: Top Up Shop on a Friday from 12 til 1 (£2 a bag of supplies). But also do warm space.

The space within church has become such a wonderful place to show my way of working with nature as a contemporary artist in our digital art world. Allowing a dialog with ordinary people (outside of a gallery).

2022 CONSTRUCT ARTWORKS

These constructs all use materials deemed useless and found while walking out and about, but they depict my imagined art world. Based on ideas that come to me, through the reading of verse in scripture, that look towards a church being the first place to educate our direct ancestors.

To explore what captures my eye in these places, in search of the art I need to create to feel alive and present in nature. Capturing landscapes from impressionistic, minimalistic and abstract expressionist viewpoints.

Ideas behind my Construct works follow my day to day, week to week and month to month conversations with my topics, checking in on what i’m thinking. Then walking the landscapes which talk to my senses as an artist.

I have been on a long journey of discovery: looking firstly at the idea of the self and the origination of an idea between 2000 - 2010. I then naturally progressed to informing myself of the base logic behind understanding the world according to science. Which has lead ‘ourkind’, to knowing and naming that world that exists around us and now I am in search of knowing my spiritual self so that the art I create passes through me as soulful expressions.

Late Night Opening

I would like to thank the fantastic nine who came to the show (I try with social media but I don’t have much reach) well I am only 5ft 8 :)

The premiere of my residency art film - was probably a bit too loud - I keep forgetting my hearing is not as good as yours - hence I like rythmic noise!.

Residency Work: Art Film and Book

The premise of my art residency at Stoke Bridge Workshops was during this time; to investigate and observe the weather imapaction and human interaction upon the surface of the immediate landscape around me. So within a few steps I found the images which make up this 3 min movie.

Above is the art film I produced along with an immerssive soundtrack to make each day a world of play to express what I want to say.

The Images can also be found in an online publication to be able to apreciate the subtle impacts we have upon the world around us . To celebrate colour and texture in the everyday world around us; with an underlining message of hope.

Right Place - Right Time at DanceEast, with Suffolk Pride celebrate LGBTQ+ Freedom.

The work that I produce looks towards nature and how this has been an inspration to the artist through millennia - to inspire the FEELING of well-being not only an image.

Right Place - Right Time for me is found within the moment - that feeling of being alive and connected to the world around us through the marvelous things we can see and experience. The natural world occurs whether we notice it or not.

My piece for this show can have many meanings and connotations, and fall at any time in one's life, be you young or old; freedom is how you can live your life being yourself. It could also mean: being lucky enough to be standing in the right place and right time to capture this image seen here. There is deep poetic familiarity in
the simplest of motivations.

Freedom is also a thing we once dreamt of; while too often succumbing to the
desires of others. Today is the best time for people old or young in our community
to be proud of the life they lead. Freedom is something granted and now is the
time to be proud to be a beautiful and natural part of the Suffolk countryside.
