THE ART OF SCIENCE

Have you ever stopped to Think why the every day things that we
see all around us, look the way they do? I have spent many years exploring the things that I can see; to understand the cycle of life within our Natural World. That undoubtedly have an impact upon how we live our modern lives and for future generations to come.

Which has lead me to explore some very curious places around the globe, (there are still many countries I would like to see); but the environmentalist I have become tells me that travelling to far off places, is not as important as appreciating the every day world we predominantly experience around us. To make any positive change
I feel it is best to start closer to home.

What we surround ourselves with (people and circumstance) affect every aspect of our Mental and Physical well-being. So this is where my art is at right now, and has been in a constant slow evolution towards this moment.  In this article, I retrace some of the pivotal moments in my journey so far, to arrive at my current destination with my 2020 Vision.

It all started innocently enough; one day while ‘wandering with my camera’ (back in 1995), thinking about: what would Charles Darwin go on to discover? in the world of today, through the eyes of a modern day explorer! To have the technological advances now (which we take for granted), to combine with our modern understanding of the Natural World as described by such luminaries as Richard Dawkins (Biochemical Genetics), David Attenborough (Biosphere) and Stephen Hawking (the Universe).

Back then I would use photography (in a rudimentary way) just to document the textures and colours used as 'a precursor', to the techniques I developed for my Contemporary Abstract Landscape Paintings and Print Making artworks. Which I continue to produce to explore the things I learn. My photography was always a 'by-product' of my research, and subsequent thoughts of how artists have drawn from science and nature for an eon.

While the pleasure of being surrounded by nature has never waned; having the freedom to capture anything and everything, soon started to grate against my art training – there had to be a purpose to it all. While at the same time I started to look below the surface of these things I was capturing, to understand what caused these effects upon the things I was finding so fascinating.

Gradually a pattern started to develop for the things that caught my eye and the landscapes I sought after, I started to realise that what at first appeared to be very simple ‘visual stimuli’, were in fact very complex systems when working together to create a natural balance.

The juxtaposition did not go unnoticed - as my expectations were being overawed by the formality of Order coming from Chaos. An example being: as seen in the 'Equation' diagram (I had no idea at the time) that what would initially be described as S = Surface, also actually being the universally acknowledged symbol used for Entropy - As I grow in knowledge, it seems some of my actions are predestined to have further connotation. One of the benefits of taking the path of least resistance!.

At the Millennium I began the journey I am still striding today, as I intend for UNSEENBEAUTY to be my life’s work. Once I had realised the under pinning cycle to the world I was creating with my visual language, it didn’t take long to define the six landscapes I have come to capture, and the reason for doing this. Everything in life has meaning and a purpose - you just have to find it!.

During Lockdown I completed an online business course to help bring my 2020 vision to fruition, my Contemporary Fine Art Landscape Photography website, will aim to positively effect the environs we most commonly interact with (away from Mother Nature) herself. Those two long stay destinations being defined as the ‘Home Space’ and the ‘Work Place’, to allow Our Positive Mental Health - A Physical Presence in the Room. I am working on the new website currently and will announce it's arrival here first.
