GRAFFITI NATION
ANALYSIS oF aN UNSEENBEAUTY IMAGE
Martin Carter Discusses the thought process inside his mind when capturing his Art.
What do you like about it?
The composition is playful, as the colours dance around the image, there is a great balance between the light and dark hues of green against the stab of red top right, which spark with each other as complimentary colours to the eye. The black lines play intimately with those of the white areas to express a fluent energy invoking the original movements of the artist who created the urban art piece.
To admire and follow their flow around the composition, which takes the viewer on a journey around the canvas resulting in observing without objectifying the impact of rain, and then heat from the sun to dilute the original colours to allow us to wonder of time and longevity – entropy if you will.
The texture seen is derived from the poured concrete surface of the skate park ramp with the added impact of time exposed to the external elements of nature and the skaters wear as they perform tricks over the original graffiti artwork. Slowly wearing away the layers of colour until the desired effect naturally occurs through scratches and markings that observe Weather Impaction and Human Interaction.

Why did you capture this photograph?
I captured this image ‘GN69’ for one of my online photographic journals, which I create to explore the three corner stones of mankind’s creativity; colour, texture and composition. Found in different local landscapes (I think, you do not have to travel and fly off to far flung places) to find something amazing to ponder, you can even do that from here at home.
I try to travel by foot where possible accompanied only by my camera. My aim is to be different from any other Landscape Photographer out there, by having a distinct journey to follow which taps in to some of our universal experiences, to unlock a mutual deeper understanding of our love for nature, that inspires every emotion I feel through the things I capture to keep a positive mind.
